Happiness
The dream vacation coming up, the promotion you are working towards, the baby that is on the way or the sixth date with someone new in your life.
But happiness can also be found in the small things of a regular day.
So today look for it there.
Happiness is life's most cherished goal. On every continent, in every country and in every culture, when people are asked, "What do you want?" the most popular answer is "happiness." When parents are asked, "What do you most want for your children?" the answer is "happiness." Happiness is the goal that makes other life goals—like success, prosperity and relationships—feel meaningful and enjoyable.
It's official—the pursuit of happiness has sped up! We are chasing after happiness faster than ever. And the faster we run, the longer the race becomes. In recent years, our happiness levels have not risen. We are experiencing what researchers call "static happiness. Most recently, the average score was 7.2 out of 10.
Life moves quickly, and sometimes, when negative things pile up, it can be easy to lose sight of the things that make you and your life a success.
There are several ways that you can enhance your happiness with your life. You can alter your focus, improve your attitude, and enhance your social life to move towards a greater sense of satisfaction with your life.
What is Happiness?
What is your definition of a happy life? Are you living it? Think carefully about this because your definition of happiness will influence every other significant decision in your life.
For example, if you think happiness is outside you, you will make happiness into a search, a catch or a reward that you must earn. If, however, you know happiness is inside you, then happiness becomes a compass, a teacher and an enabler that helps you to live your best life.
Why choose Happiness not Sad?
Some people chase happiness while other people choose happiness. It all depends how much time you want to save.
Try to find the place in your mind where you have already decided how good today will be, how good this year will be, how good your life will be. Are you happy with your decision? Set a positive intention right now to let today be even more enjoyable than you thought it was going to be.
One minute of appreciation
Take a minute, sit down and just reflect on what you appreciate and love about your partner Or a friend or family member Or yourself.
This will fill you with gratitude and redirect your focus to the positive side of things.
Be the smile you want to see in your world
Smile more towards the people you meet and you’ll get more smiles back. You’ll feel better. They will too.
And they will probably smile more towards the other people they meet that day. So don’t wait for other people to smile more, be the smile you want to see in your world instead.
Don’t insist on the best
There are two types of decision makers. Satisficers (yes, satisficers) make a decision once their criteria are met. When they find the hotel or the pasta sauce that has the qualities they want, they’re satisfied.
Maximizers want to make the best possible decision. Even if they see a bicycle or a backpack that meets their requirements, they can’t make a decision until they’ve examined every option. Satisficers tend to be happier than maximizers. Maximizers expend more time and energy reaching decisions, and they’re often anxious about their choices.
Sometimes good enough is good enough.
Accept the good
Look at your life and take stock of what’s working, and don’t push away something just because it isn’t perfect.
When good things happen, even the very little ones, let them in.
Make someone else happy
Don't stop at just smiles.
i)Give someone a big hug.
ii)Give him or her a small or a bigger gift of some kind.
iii)Cook their favorite food if they have had a bad day.
Be the day you want to see
Don’t wait for someone else to create the day you want to have. Instead, get the ball rolling yourself.
Take action and take the first small step or steps forward:
Arrange an evening down at the pub or a picnic in the spring grass.
Set up a movie night when the rain is pouring down.
Take a walk or a run in the early morning to get your energy levels for the day and week up.
Say yes to something new
Something you haven’t eaten before. A new song or album. A new author or movie. A new sport. A new way to work or through your town.
By actively going outside of what is normal for you or your comfort zone you’ll discover new, wonderful things in life quite often.
This will bring happiness into your life and if you develop this habit then in my experience it will be easier to move outside of your comfort zone in bigger ways too.
Push yourself, not others
It’s easy to feel that someone else is responsible for your fulfillment, but the reality is that it is really your charge. Once you realize that, you have the power to get where you want to go.
Stop blaming others or the world, and you’ll find your answers much sooner.
Be open to change
Even if it doesn’t feel good, change is the one thing you can count on.
Change will happen, so make contingency plans and emotionally shore yourself up for the experience.
